Chandler Hutchinson is now an unrestricted free agent. As reported by Fred Katz of The Athletic, San Antonio has chosen to dispense with his services, leaving the 25-year-old forward free to decide his future in the coming weeks.
Hutchinson leaves the Spurs without having played with them, as he arrived just over a month ago as part of the five-team trade that brought Russell Westbrook to the Lakers.
Being chosen number 22 in the 2018 draft by the Chicago Bulls, it was in Illinois where he developed his best game for two years. Last season, 2020-21, he was transferred to Washington, where he played 15 games to average 5.2 points and 3.2 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per night. Now is the time to start a new path.
As for the Spurs, Hutchinson was never in their plans for the long haul. With 17 guaranteed contracts in their squad, the Texans must dispense with two players before training camp, and one of them has been Hutchinson, who will also collect the 4 million dollars that his contract stipulated.
