OMAHA, Neb. – As a heatwave brings triple-digit temperatures to the area, local heating and cooling companies are preparing for a surge in service calls.
To help residents keep their homes cool and prevent system overloads, experts offer several key recommendations. Brian Wilhite of Omaha Heating and Air Conditioning emphasizes the importance of ensuring A/C filters are clean to maintain proper airflow. He also advises homeowners to close blinds to limit sun exposure and to avoid using heat-generating appliances like ovens and dryers during peak temperature hours.
“You can also leave ceiling fans on and set the thermostat fan to the ‘on’ position, because the more air we move, the more humidity we remove,” Wilhite said. “That will help keep those temperatures in your home low.”
Should an air conditioning system fail, Wilhite recommends turning off the thermostat immediately and contacting a local service provider for assistance.
