MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper engaged in a heated verbal exchange last week inside the team’s clubhouse, according to multiple sources. The confrontation took place at Citizens Bank Park during the commissioner’s annual tour of MLB teams.
The incident reportedly began last Monday, about five minutes into Manfred’s address to the players. Harper forcefully interjected, allegedly using profanity, and suggested that if the commissioner was there to discuss a salary cap, he should leave.
Manfred responded that as the commissioner, he would not depart. During the ensuing exchange, Harper challenged Manfred, questioning what he had ever done to benefit the players.
Despite the tense altercation, the meeting proceeded for approximately another hour with both men in attendance.
When contacted, the Commissioner’s Office, the MLB Players Association, and Harper’s agent, Scott Boras, all declined to comment on the matter.
