The recently included in the Hall of Fame, Ben Wallace, will rejoin the Detroit Pistons organization in an advisory role in basketball operations, as announced by the franchise itself.
This position will allow Wallace to operate at a variety of levels in support of head coach Dwane Casey and the general manager Troy Weaver, as well as advising the players that make up the squad.
“Ben is a Hall of Famer and Pistons legend returning home to support our team and our organization,” owner Tom Gores said in a statement. “It embodies everything we are building here and will be a real asset to Dwane, Troy and the rest of our staff. Ben helped set the standard for what it means to be a Piston and will be a tremendous influence on our young players. “
Now, the ex-player will be more linked to the structure of the franchise from a very different vision than the one he starred in during his playing career. Last April he already acknowledged being satisfied with the direction of the project and now he himself will have the opportunity to participate internally to achieve the established objectives.
Wallace can boast of being one of the greatest defenders of all time and a Pistons icon. He was selected six times as All-Defensive and holds the all-time record for Defensive Player of the Year awards, with four, alongside Dikembe Mutombo. In addition, he was a key piece in the ring won by the Pistons in 2004.
