After years of fan anticipation, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are reprising their roles for the “Freaky Friday” sequel, “Freakier Friday.” Curtis was a key advocate for the film, driven by persistent questions from the public.
“I was determined to make it happen because everywhere in the world I go for other work, all they want to talk about is Lindsay — and ‘Freaky Friday,'” Curtis said in a recent interview alongside Lohan. The actress noted she “lobbied very hard” to bring the sequel to fruition.
The duo, who first co-starred in the 2003 original, said their real-life friendship made returning to their roles seamless. “When we started, it felt like it was just yesterday,” Lohan explained. “You don’t too often get to work with people that you genuinely love and are your friends. So it didn’t feel like work.”
Curtis echoed the sentiment, adding, “I’ve known her since she was 15. We’ve stayed friends all the way through her teens and her twenties.”
The new film introduces a fresh twist on the original body-swapping premise. “It’s a four-way switch,” Curtis revealed. The plot centers on Lohan’s character, Anna, now a music producer engaged to a man named Eric. Complications arise from the friction between Anna’s 15-year-old daughter, Harper, and her fiancé’s own teenage daughter.
“And Tess is still micromanaging me as a mother,” Lohan added, referring to Curtis’s character. While the stars remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the swap, Curtis teased, “I’m not gonna tell you who switches with who.”
“Freakier Friday” is set to be released in theaters nationwide on August 8.
