One sure way to track the popularity of cryptocurrencies and see which one is trending is to keep track of their Twitter mentions. People have been keeping a close eye on crypto performance via social media for years, and usually, Bitcoin (BTC/USD) is the coin that dominates, as is to be expected.
However, from time to time, other coins have been known to leave Bitcoin’s shadow and become the new most mentioned cryptos on Twitter, which is what happened with Shiba Inu (SHIB/USD), according to data by CoinTrendz.

CoinTrendz reported recently that SHIB managed to outperform Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, Cardano, and all other largest cryptocurrencies.
The most popular coins on Twitter
SHIB’s dominance on Twitter was measured on October 11th, when the coin saw 419 mentions in a single hour. During this same period, Bitcoin saw only 307 mentions, while Ethereum had 188. Next was Anyswap with 176 mentions, and in fifth place, DOGE, with its 134 mentions.
While Solana and Cardano were also on the list, ranking as 7th (SOL/USD) and 8th (ADA/USD), they both saw under 100 mentions within these 60 minutes.
Shiba Inu, while being essentially a copy of Dogecoin, started seeing a lot of popularity over the last several weeks. DOGE hype seems to have died down a bit, at least when compared to early 2021. However, DOGE is still bigger than ever before this year.
SHIB, on the other hand, saw a rapid surge in popularity, and many have started theorizing whether it could outperform DOGE and become the new leading memecoin in the crypto industry.
