ESlovenian guard Luka Doncic shined as the best scorer of the game with 25 points, including 10 in the last period, and the Dallas Mavericks beat the young San Antonio Spurs 104-99 on Thursday in the duel of Texans.
The dominance of the match drastically changed sides in the first half. Then the game turned into an exchange of baskets.
Dallas finally took the lead with a pass that Doncic sent to Canadian power forward Dwight Powell, who scored the dunk for the 86-84 run at 8:33 left.
The Mavericks took off 11 points on Doncic’s backward triple three-and-a-half minutes later.
Point guard Jalen Brunson scored 19 points for the Mavericks, while forward Dorian Finney-Smith had 14 and German forward Maxi Kleber had 12.
All of them, like Doncic, hit at least three triples. Kleber also had a double-double with 10 rebounds and six blocks as the Mavericks’ sixth player.
For the Spurs, guard Dejounte Murray contributed a double-double of 23 points with 10 rebounds and Austrian center Jakob Poeltl also added another double-double of 14 points and captured 13 balls under the hoops.
Backup guard-forward Bryn Forbes scored 15 points by hitting five 3-pointers. Lonnie Walker IV had 14 points and started in place of injured forward Doug McDermott.
San Antonio took the lead 5-25 early in the game. The Mavericks rallied for the 29-36 run
