The Dallas Mavericks will retire Dirk Nowitzki’s jersey on January 5, coinciding with the game that will face the Golden State Warriors at the American Airlines Center, as reported by journalist Marc Stein.
The former German player wore the number ’41’ during his long and successful 21-year NBA career, all of them in the Texas franchise. In April 2019, he announced his retirement with a long track record that includes the 2011 championship, fourteen appearances in the All-Star Game and a total of 31,560 points scored.
In the particular field of the Mavericks, the German leads the franchise in games played (1,522), scoring (31,560), rebounds (11,489), blocks (1,281) and triples (1,982). Thus, Nowitzki will join Derek Harper (12), Brad Davis (15) and Rolando Blackman (22) as those players in the organization with their number retired.
Despite hanging up his shoes, it didn’t take him long to return to Mavericks discipline. Last June he accepted Mark Cuban’s proposal to become an advisor to the franchise. «Mark [Cuban] He came up to me and asked me to help. And, of course, I said yes, “said the former German player. “I will be willing to help the Mavericks in any way that I can.”
