Mexico began 2022 with 116 new deaths due to the Covid-19 and 10,864 new infections, registered during the first weekend of the year.
In the daily technical report on the progress of the pandemic of the new coronavirus In the country, it was detailed that the number of deaths due to this disease amounted to 299,544 deaths, while the accumulated number of confirmed cases is 3 million 990,587 infections.
It should be remembered that on January 1 the Health Secretary it did not publish its daily report due to the holiday at the beginning of the year.
The federal government detailed that the estimated number of active cases increased to 48,801 people who have presented symptoms of Covid-19 in the last 14 days.
The Federal entities with the highest rate of active cases per 100,000 inhabitants are:

- Baja California
- San Luis Potosi
- Aguascalientes
- Yucatan
- Chihuahua

The federal agency highlighted that 3 million 312,333 people have recovered after suffering from this disease.
Regarding the hospital capacity for the care of Covid-19 patients, the occupancy of general beds stands at 14%, one percentage point less than that reported last Friday. Meanwhile, the occupancy of beds with a fan remains unchanged at 12 percent.
According to the daily technical report, the distribution by sex in the confirmed cases of Covid-19 shows a predominance in women, with 50.3%; while the overall median age is 39 years.
The pandemic closes 2021 with a slight upward trend in infections
The Covid-19 pandemic in the country closed 2021 with a slight rebound in infections. During December, the Ministry of Health reported 91,850 confirmed cases, that is, 11,188 more cases than those detected during November, thus reversing the downward trend registered since the end of the third wave of infections that occurred during the summer.
It was in the last week of December that there was a considerable increase in the number of daily infections reported by the Health authorities, while the worldwide alert is maintained for the appearance of the Covid-19 variant Omicron.
Meanwhile, the number of deaths due to Covid-19 during December registered its lowest level in 2021. According to data from the Ministry of Health, during the last month of the year that just ended, 5,182 deaths were reported due to this disease, a figure very similar to that registered in November (5,881), but which maintains its downward trend.
Advance of vaccination against Covid-19 in Mexico
The Ministry of Health reported that during the last day of 2021 4,753 were applied vaccines against the new coronavirus, to register a total of 148 million 943,207 doses supplied nationwide since the vaccination plan began on December 24, 2020.
It should be remembered that on January 1 the vaccination centers against Covid-19 did not open because it was a holiday.
Of the 81 million 916,395 people inoculated in the country, 72 million 849,124 have a complete scheme of one or two doses depending on the type of biological applied, as reported by the agency at the cutoff of December 31, 2021.
