Demi Lovato has released “Fast,” the lead single from her upcoming ninth studio album, signaling her return to the pop genre. The new track follows her 2022 rock-influenced record, Holy Fvck.
Released with an accompanying music video that features the singer performing amidst burning cars, “Fast” was first teased on social media earlier this month. In a video clip, Lovato lip-synced to the lyrics, “’Cause baby honestly / I just wanna feel your hands all over me / Over and over / Right where they wanna be / Even if it’s only for tonight.”
The new album is executive produced by Zhone, known for his work with Kesha, Troye Sivan, and Charli XCX. “It’s been so inspiring working with Demi and experiencing her journey of continued leveling up,” Zhone told Rolling Stone. “She is such a master in the studio. This album is about letting inhibitions go, and we had so much fun making this music!”
This release follows Lovato’s 2023 album Revamped, which featured re-recorded rock versions of her previous hits. The new single also arrives nearly a year after her directorial debut, the documentary Child Star. The film explored the pressures of fame on young performers and included interviews with Drew Barrymore, Christina Ricci, and Raven-Symoné.
Earlier this year, Lovato married musician Jordan “Jutes” Lutes.
