The Tunisian players demanded a penalty kick in their favour, in the 76th minute, as a result of a foul by Wehbe Khazri from the Burkinabe defender, but the referee, after reviewing the situation with the video assistant referee, refused to count it and announced a throw-in to Tunisia.
Is the government unfair to Tunisia?
The referee’s decision was correct because the defender, despite the strong challenge, managed to play the ball and clear it before colliding with Khazri.
Even if the collision is strong, it is not considered, because the lesson in the football law in all contacts or competition for the ball is the player’s success in playing the ball, according to Article 12 (errors and misconduct).
Meaning that as long as the player has already succeeded in kicking the ball, he does not count what comes after as long as his movement is natural, that is, he did not raise his leg up in an exaggerated manner to obstruct or hit his opponent, for example, and this applies to the goalkeeper in the dockings as well.

Not long ago, Brazilian goalkeeper Alison Becker was canceled twice on Thursday, due to his success in playing the ball before colliding with the opponent.
Burkina Faso plays in the semi-finals on Wednesday against Senegal or Equatorial Guinea, who meet on Sunday.
