Ambulante, back to the face-to-face and collective experience of cinema

“Resonances”. That will be the theme of the 2022 edition, number 17 of the festival Traveling Documentary Tourwhich this year postponed its activities from August 31 to October 9 next, with a presence in five states of the Republic, although, once again, taking command of the hybrid format.

This was announced by the team of the Documentary Tour this Tuesday morning in a virtual press conference.

“We start from the first idea of ​​understanding the cinema as a space that articulates multiple resonances, as a meeting place that allows us to broaden ideas and dialogues with our audience. So in this post-pandemic year we want to tune in to frequencies in the resonant bodies of our viewers, in their emotions, and in their critical consciousness.” Itzel Martineznew director of Ambulante Programming.

In particular, he mentioned, emphasis will be placed on training activities and question and answer sessions with the public. Likewise, he mentioned, collaboration is being sought with different television stations, especially local ones, to ensure that the documentaries reach a larger audience, especially those who do not have face-to-face or virtual access to the festival.

For its part, Paulina Suarez, general director of the tour added: “we want to review the different ways in which we want to resonate from the micro to the universal, revaluing the localities and exalting the cultural differences in the different territories of Mexico and how these generate a meeting space. The pandemic placed us in a space where we resonate socially in a different way that deepens our emotions, our ideas and how our life has been, to imagine a new era.

The reason for the change of dates

On the main reasons for the change of dates towards the second half of the year, the general director of street vendor explained that in previous editions, at least the face-to-face ones, the month of May was the peak of the tour’s activities, however, the change in the conditions of government support for festivals, in particular due to the publication last April of program results Support for Cultural and Artistic Festivals (Profest), where Ambulante was one of the beneficiaries, forced the festival to wait for confirmation before putting the preparations into action.

“We had no choice but to move towards the end of the year if we wanted to have a chance of being considered for these grants, which are absolutely essential for us to do our jobs,” Suarez said.

The programming of the tapes to be presented, as well as the guests of the tour, will be announced shortly, he explained. roxana alejo, operational director, since they are still being integrated from the confirmation of the supports. The full announcement, she anticipated, will take place next August.

He also added that “since the start of the pandemic we have understood that it is essential to continue with the presence in the digital space with programming that allows us to reach new and, above all, different audiences, so we will once again have this option for all those who They cannot join us in person. The digital tour will be available for the entire Mexican Republic and now, this year, it will be simultaneously.”
