The soaring popularity of Labubu collectibles has escalated to burglary after a specialty store in La Puente was broken into early Wednesday morning.
One Stop Sales, a shop on Glendora Avenue known for selling the popular figures, shared surveillance footage on its Instagram page showing masked thieves breaking in around 1:30 a.m. The video shows the burglars carrying away several boxes of merchandise. The store also posted images of a white Toyota Tacoma believed to have been used in the crime.
“Today we got robbed, and they took all of our inventory, trashed our store,” the owners stated in an Instagram post. “We are still in shock.”
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the thieves stole several boxes of Labubu dolls valued at approximately $7,000. In the days leading up to the incident, the store, which opened in May, had been promoting its stock of the highly coveted items on social media.
Labubus are collectible, monster-like figures sold in sealed “blind boxes” by the Chinese company Pop Mart. While they may resemble children’s toys, they are avidly collected by adults who often style the figures as fashion accessories.
The demand is so high that the dolls, which retail for about $28, frequently sell out and command double or triple their price on the secondhand market. The trend was amplified last year when K-pop superstar Lisa posted a video with a large Labubu doll. In June, the frenzy reached a new height when a life-size Labubu figure sold for $170,000 at a Beijing auction.
Investigators have located the white pickup truck used in the burglary, but no arrests have been made. The Sheriff’s Department Industry Station is handling the investigation and asks anyone with information to call (626) 330-3322.
