TAfter losing the first two games of the West final and wasting a 19-point lead on Friday (126-117), Luka Doncic is confident that the Mavericks can take the next two games in Dallas to answer the Golden State Warriors.
“Each one of us believes that we can win these next two games so we are going to believe until the end,” he told the media.
The Mavericks were leading by 19 points in the second quarter and by 14 at halftime, but finally fell to a fantastic Warriors in the second half (68-45) who made it 2-0 in this series.
The Slovenian, who had a bad night without sleep and with vomiting after the first game, played a great game with 43 points (12 of 23 shooting, 5 of 10 triples, 13 of 15 free throws), 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals.
Despite the fact that in addition to his gastric problems he also has pain in his right shoulder, Doncic did not use it as an excuse for the defeat and said that he has “nothing serious”.
The Dallas base pointed to the defense as the weak point of his team in the last two quarters.
“It’s hard to put up with them. We haven’t done our job in the second half. In the first I think we defended well and in the second we didn’t. So we have to improve our defence,” he explained.
Regarding the strategy in attack, Doncic indicated that they resorted too much to the perimeter without hitting the zone in the third quarter despite the fact that their statistics in the triple were very good (21 of 45 in the entire match).
“They have two of the best shooters in the world and they still attacked the paint,” he exemplified.
In any case, Doncic urged to “forget” this game as soon as possible and look to the future.
“What happened, happened, so let’s think about the next one,” he closed.
Game 3 of the Western finals will be played in Dallas on Sunday while Game 4 will be played on Tuesday.
