The European Football Association (UEFA) announced the selection of French striker Karim Benzema, Real Madrid’s Spanish striker, as the best player in the Champions League this season, on Tuesday.
Top scorer Benzema led Real Madrid to the Champions League title, after beating Liverpool 1-0 in the final last Saturday.
The award for the best young player went to the Brazilian Vinicius Junior, a colleague of Benzema, who scored the winning goal in the Champions League final in Paris.
The UEFA technical committee chose the ideal squad for the Champions League this season, with Benzema and Vinicius in the attack line, along with Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe.
The squad included Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who contributed influentially to winning the 14th continental title for his club, and won the award for best player in the final, along with his colleague, midfielder Luka Modric.
Liverpool participated with four players in the ideal squad, with the defense trio of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson, along with midfielder Fabinho, while the Egyptian top scorer Mohamed Salah was absent.
The starting lineup also saw the presence of Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne and Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger.
The ideal lineup was as follows:

Midfield: De Bruyne (Manchester City), Fabinho (Liverpool), Modric (Real Madrid)
