The latest episode of SmackDown opened with a defiant John Cena issuing a direct challenge to Brock Lesnar following The Beast’s shocking return at SummerSlam. Cena’s promo set a confrontational tone for the evening, which later saw him embroiled in a conflict with Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre before Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes emerged to even the odds.
The confrontation led to a blockbuster tag team main event, where Rhodes and Cena faced McIntyre and Paul. The match ended abruptly when Paul delivered a low blow to Cena, resulting in a disqualification. The victory was short-lived, however, as McIntyre unleashed a savage post-match assault on Rhodes, punctuating the attack with a Claymore that sent the champion crashing through the announce table.
Earlier in the night, Montreal’s own Sami Zayn scored a major upset, defeating United States Champion Solo Sikoa in a non-title match. Buoyed by a passionate hometown crowd, Zayn overcame repeated interference from Sikoa’s allies—Talla Tonga, Tonga Loa, and JC Mateo—to secure a surprise victory with a roll-up pin.
The new tandem of Talla Tonga and JC Mateo, known as The MFTs, also made a statement by defeating the veteran Motor City Machine Guns. While Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley initially used their trademark chemistry to control the bout, the sheer power of Tonga proved decisive. Capitalizing on injuries the Machine Guns were still carrying from their TLC Match at SummerSlam, Tonga secured the win for his team with a chokeslam.
In the women’s division, a birthday celebration for WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Alexa Bliss was interrupted by Chelsea Green, Piper Niven, and Alba Fyre. The confrontation led to a match between Green and Bliss’s partner, Charlotte Flair. “The Queen” dominated the contest, reversing Green’s attempt to use the birthday cake and sending her opponent face-first into it instead. Flair then quickly forced a submission with the Figure-Eight Leglock.
