Judge orders the authorities to take care of the health of Murillo Karam after his arrest

The Second District Judge for Amparo in Criminal Matters, Antonio González García, ordered the director of the North Prison of Mexico City to protect the health of the former Attorney General of the Republic, Jesús Murillo Karam.

The judge indicated that the director of the prison “is obliged to guarantee, by himself or through the appropriate person, the health and physical and psychological integrity, for which he must immediately take all the pertinent precautions, actions and measures to control or avoid contagion (of Covid-19) ”.

It also ordered the corresponding authorities, “to be respectful of the dignity and human rights of the direct complainant, to prevent any act tending to undermine his personal sphere, for which he must, under his strictest responsibility, allow access to relatives, lawyers and/or authorized of those, under the conditions and under the security measures that the person in charge deems appropriate in response to the health emergency that our country is going through, as well as avoiding any act that endangers the physical and emotional integrity, as well as its life, proceeding the minimum conditions of dignity, health, hygiene and granting all humanitarian treatment to the petitioner”.

The judge gave a period of 24 hours for the notification of compliance with his resolution, because if he does not do so, the corresponding authorities will be awarded a sentence of three to nine years in prison, a fine of 50 to 500 Units of Measurement and Updating, dismissal and disqualification from three to nine years to hold another public position, job or commission, to the public servant who, as the responsible authority, does not obey the precautionary measure duly notified, regardless of any other crime incurred.

The judge commissioned any of the judicial clerks attached to that judicial body, to go to the facilities of the North Men’s Preventive Prison to meet with Murilloin order for him to state whether he ratifies the demand for fundamental rights promoted in his favor by Rosa Azucena Vargas Hernández.

Last Saturday, the federal control judge, Marco Antonio Fuerte Tapia, ordered justified preventive detention until next Wednesday against the former Attorney General of the Republic. Next Wednesday, in a hearing at the Federal Criminal Justice Center of the North Prison, Judge Marco Antonio Fuerte Tapia will determine whether or not to link Murillo to the process, and whether to ratify the justified preventive detention against him or change it for some other caution.
