Health Union asks that the federal budget for that sector be maintained

Highly specialized doctors from the health sector in the field of psychiatry and the personnel who work in hospitals and mental health clinics in the country, called on the federal government not to cut the federal budget for this medical area, which should be approved in the coming weeks.

Doctors Jorge Escotto Morett, Ricardo López Méndez, Deymos Aguilar Jiménez, as well as doctor María Pérez Ordaz together with doctor Marco Antonio Sánchez, General Secretary of Section 17 of the National Union of Health Workers, agreed in pointing out the above and assured that in our country, the number of patients with some mental disorder has already reached 20% of the total population of the country.

“If you really want to stop the violence, crime and the disaster and disintegration of families that burdens the country so much, you must stop the reform of the public health system that you propose, so that you listen and know that with outreach, prevention and care programs for mental illnesses, would stop the growing number of mental patients who promote violence”, highlighted Escotto Morett.

At a press conference, the doctors reported that given the challenges faced by the work of specialists and workers in hospitals and mental health clinics in Mexico, they will hold the International Forum “Academic Conference on Psychiatry”, which will be It will take place on October 13 and 14 at the Theater of the Federation of Unions of Workers at the Service of the State. When touching on the issue of the shortage of medicines that affects the public health sector, they indicated that the care of patients with mental disorders is not exempt from this situation. “We recognize that basic and special medicines in the treatment of people are scarce and, in the worst cases, they have ceased to be supplied, so relatives are asked to take on the task of going to look for antidepressants and psychoactive drugs. to better serve their patients.

They stressed that there is an enormous challenge in terms of public health, “we only seek to help in the response to a problem of great magnitude such as providing better mental health care for hundreds of thousands of people with behavioral disorders. which, by not being attended to, become a factor of violence and risk for the family to which it belongs”, they indicated.
