Severe weather and flash flooding forced the Wisconsin State Fair in West Allis to close early on Saturday night, leading to the cancellation of the scheduled main stage performance by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Fair officials announced the concert’s cancellation around 7:50 p.m., stating, “While we tried everything within our control to allow this show to go on, for the safety of our artists, team, and Fairgoers, we cannot host this concert.”
Tickets purchased through Etix will be automatically refunded within the next one to two weeks. Attendees who bought tickets with cash at the fair’s box office can receive a refund by presenting their original tickets and ID at the ticket office, which is open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Earlier in the evening, as a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the area by the National Weather Service, fair officials urged attendees to take cover. Designated storm shelters on the grounds included the Dairy Building, the Exposition Center, the Wisconsin Products Pavilion, and the Grand Champion Hall.
The weather forecast predicted additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms, with the potential for heavy rainfall continuing into Sunday. The Wisconsin State Fair is scheduled to conclude its run on Sunday, with grounds open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., weather permitting.
