Mexico and the US will invest 4,900 million dollars in border infrastructure

Mexico and the United States will jointly invest 4.9 billion dollars in modernization and border infrastructure projects.

These investments are part of a package of “emblematic achievements” that the governments of the two nations released in the framework of the Second Annual Meeting of the High-Level Economic Dialogue (DEAN) held this Monday in Mexico City.

The investments will be made through President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, which dedicates $3.4 billion to 26 major projects for the construction and modernization of land ports of entry on both US borders, as well as Mexico’s commitment during the meeting of the President Biden and Andrés Manuel López Obrador in July to invest $1.5 billion in border infrastructure between 2022 and 2024.

On the other hand, the National Water Commission of Mexico (Conagua) and the Environmental Protection Agency of the United States signed a letter of intent, committing both to invest 474 million dollars jointly in priority projects that address the issues of water that have long affected Tijuana and San Diego, as well as transboundary pollution of the ocean and the Tijuana River.

In the same list of achievements and as part of the 2022 Ministerial Forum on Supply Chains organized by the United States, Mexico joined the collective objective that 50% of vehicle production in 2030 be zero-emission vehicles.

In addition, it was recalled that Mexico and the United States established a Supply Chain Working Group, with an initial focus on the semiconductor and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) supply chain ecosystems in both countries.
