Couples spend 8% of their monthly income on personal care

In Mexico, personal care ranks fourth among basic needs and it is estimated that couples spend up to 8% of their monthly income on products and services for personal care, according to data from the Mexican Chamber of the Physical Beautification Industry (CAMIEF). ).

That is, a couple who together earn 30,000 pesos a month allocates around 2,400 pesos in beauty salon services, nails, barbershops, spas, creams, makeup, toothpastes, among other issues applied to personal care.

According to the Inegi, the cost of these products and services have been impacted by inflation and this year they cost more, which indicates that more money is already being spent for this purpose. For example, at the end of the first half of September, inflation in haircut services was 8.30%, while items for hygiene and personal care rose 11.09%, above the general inflation of 8.76 percent. .

In this item, deodorants report an increase of 16.45%; hair products, 13.56%; cream and dental hygiene products rose 13.21% and skin creams 12.01 percent.

During the pandemic, the beauty industry was affected and in that period the closure of businesses in this sector was reported.

The pandemic led the sector to go through various stages, 30% of formal businesses dedicated to beauty had to close, and many of those who worked in those salons went to provide home service, according to data from the Mexican Chamber of Industry of Physical Beautification (Camief).
