CATEM seeks to represent Mazda workers by participating in union elections in Silao, Guanajuato

The president of the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CAT), Pedro Haces, seeks to continue on the path of the automotive sector by participating in the voting process that will take place on October 17, at the Mazda plant in Silao, Guanajuato, where around 4,500 workers will participate to decide who should have proof of representativeness.

It should be remembered that in September 2021 the CAT He won the vote against the Confederation of Workers of Mexico (CTM) to represent Nissan workers at its Aguascalientes plant.

CATEM’s jurisdiction in this process is once again against the CTM in the union led by Marco Antonio Aceves del Olmo and the “Froylan González Daniel” union that is part of the Confederation of Autonomous Unions (COSAT).

In March of this year, a vote was held related to the comprehensive review agreement of the collective bargaining agreement, but it was rejected by the workers.

The CATEM leader assured that “it is a historic opportunity for the workers of Mazda and for the workers of the automotive industry, so they will take care of and defend the result of this union election process.”

He added that the legal instances; courts, collegiate and opposing unions must respect the decision of the workers, in the same way that members of CATEM will do.

According to the leader of CATthis is the first time, in almost a decade, in which the workers will have the possibility of choosing, through a free, secret and direct vote, the union organization that should represent them to negotiate their collective bargaining agreement.

Pedro Haces is also the general secretary of the “Benito Juárez García” Union, who will fight for representation in Mazda, Guanajuato.

“In CAT we exercise modern trade unionism, because in CAT we have young people, people who care, people who are in their best moment to see their needs”, said the union leader.

Haces said that “just as we won the Aguascalientes recounts of the Nissan company, we are also going to win Mazda, because the people have woken up, the workers are looking for something better, they are looking for leaders like Verenisse Ruiz, Undersecretary of Organization of the National Executive Committee, who is at the forefront of the automotive issue throughout the country,” he said.

For her part, Verenisse Ruiz Sánchez affirmed that the CAT It offers transparency in the management of quotas, in the revisions and agreements of collective contracts and in the election of union delegates and representatives.
