55.6% of suspected cases of monkeypox are positive

The Weekly Technical Report on Epidemiological Surveillance of the Ministry of Health (SSA) reported that more than half of the people who show symptoms related to monkeypox are positive.

In the statement, the Mexican health authorities detailed that, until last October 10, 55.6% of the total (3,860) of probable cases of monkeypox infection, 2,147 have been confirmed positive. In addition, it was reported that there are currently 504 people under study.

Of the total number of confirmed cases, the Institute of Epidemiological Diagnosis and Reference reported that the entity that concentrates the most cases is Mexico City, with 1,303 infections; in second place is Jalisco, where 252 positives have been confirmed.

The rest of the 31 entities, in which positive cases of monkeypox have been found, are the State of Mexico, with 208; Yucatan, with 81; Quintana Roo, with 51; Tabasco, with 28, Chiapas, with 25; Nuevo Leon has 22; Puebla, 19; Morelos, 16; Veracruz, 15; Baja California presents 13 cases; Guanajuato 12.

Other states with cases are: Chihuahua (11); Coahuila (11) Nayarit (9); Hidalgo (8); Queretaro (8); Oaxaca (8) and Sinaloa (8).

Also listed is Aguascalientes (7); Campeche (6); Tamaulipas (6); Michigan (4); Colima (4); Sonora (3); Zacatecas (3) Warrior (2); Tlaxcala (2); Lower California (1) and San Luis Potosí (1).

At the moment, the only entity in the national territory that is not reported with positive cases is Durango.

Of the total cases presented in Mexico, the document indicates that 98% of these are located in men and the rest, that is, 2%, occur in women.

On the other hand, the age range with the highest percentage of positives is between 30 and 39 years old, since this group concentrates 47.3% of the positive cases, which translates to a total of 1,015 people, of the 2,147 that were They got sick in Mexico.

More than 70,000 in the world

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that, until October 6, 71,237 confirmed cases of monkeypox were reported in 107 countries, territories and areas of the six regions that comprise it.

So far, the WHO has only reported 26 victims who died from the disease, which is transmitted through direct contact with secretions from a sick person or with contaminated objects.

Health authorities recommend that, in case of symptoms, patients should avoid contact with other people and avoid going to public places.
