The Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López Hernández, revealed that there was a “political agreement” with the PRI caucus and the federal government to present the reform that extends the presence of the Armed Forces in the streets until 2028; pact that, he said, seeks to extend for electoral reform and possibly revive the electrical amendment.
During his meeting with deputies from Morena, the Labor Party and the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM), prior to the analysis of this reform in the plenary session of San Lázaro, the head of the Interior acknowledged that even having serious ideological differences, and even different styles of acting, “the country is well worth a good deal.”
He stressed that the reform so that the Armed Forces continue, until March 2028, participating in public security tasks, is a political agreement with the PRI that goes beyond a constitutional reform since, he said, it will allow “the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador transit in another way and, (with it) consolidate the governability that the country requires, but above all that the government of the president requires in the last stretch of his six-year term.
Agreement, since before AMLO’s Fourth Report
The Morenoite also explained that on August 30, two days before he delivered the Fourth Government Report, he received a call from Morena’s coordinator in San Lázaro, Ignacio Mier, who told him about the creation of a new political agreement with the PRI. .
“He called me and told me; ‘Look, they looked for me, they invite us to build a consensus’ and I ask him, consensus on what? Well, from the Civil Guard”.
“What does this consensus consist of? I asked, in a constitutional reform, so that we go from 5 to 9 years in term of duration,” he explained inside the Chamber of Deputies.
After these statements, the federal official added, in an interview with the media, that there are circumstances to build consensus, which allow progress on issues such as the electricity reform – which would have to be presented again – and the electoral reform.
“If we were able to build a common road, then we can build two, three, four and those that are required for the better progress of the country and for there to be more governability,” he stressed.
reject consensus
However, the PRI in the Chamber of Deputies denied such agreements. The coordinator of the PRI parliamentary group in San Lázaro, Rubén Moreira Valdez, maintained that he is not aware of this political agreement between his party and the federal government.
At the same time, he argued that the PRI’s proposal on the military was made known to all the parties. “We presented an initiative, we presented it to all the parties, we notified them that we had that proposal and we made it public,” he pointed out.
When questioned about the possibility of voting in favor of the electoral reform, he maintained that, up to now, the PRI has not presented any proposal on this matter.
While the national leader of the tricolor, Alejandro Moreno, rejected that there is an agreement with Morena in any way and denied what the Secretary of the Interior said.
Likewise, he maintained that his bench is not going to support an electoral reform that violates the INE or the Electoral Tribunal or revives the electrical reform.
“We have stated that the PRI’s position on the issue of electoral reform is very clear, and on the electrical issue, well, then we leave the PRI’s position there, which was a position against it, because it was an initiative that did not promote investment. , the development and growth of our country”, he said.
