It is possible to go for 100% recovery of the general minimum wage: STPS

The recovery of the purchasing power of the general minimum wage stands at 63%; Therefore, the negotiation that will take place within the National Minimum Wage Commission is expected to maintain the objective of achieving 100% recovery, said the Secretary of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS), Luisa Maria Mayor Lujan.

“Hopefully we can reach the goal, the goal that during the President’s Administration Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador Reaching 100% recovery has already been achieved in the Northern Border Zone, but not yet in the rest of the country,” said Mayor Luján.

Likewise, he said that the discussion will begin to take place approximately at the end of November and to have a determination “which will be the increase to apply as of January 1 of next year in the month of December.”

Collective bargaining at the center of the rules of the game

Before the industrialists, the Secretary of Labor affirmed that in the world of work, and after the 2019 reform, the rules of the game intend to put authentic collective bargaining at the center, the protection of the rights of workers to freely choose their organizations, and so that it is democracy and freedom that give strength to the labor market.

He stressed that the purpose of Mexico’s trade agreement with the United States and Canada is “to advance in the protection of labor rights, better wages, better working conditions.”

He also said that “the entry into force of the T-MECin July 2020, represented an absolute paradigm shift with respect to its predecessor, the FTA, this because unlike the FTA, it places the labor issue at the center and not on the periphery of the Trade Agreement”.

In this sense, he said, the aim of this new agreement is that we manage to improve the quality of life of workers, closing the income gaps that persist in the region, through full compliance with labor rights, not just individual rights. but collective.
