Tequila surpassed American whiskey in sales value in the United States

Guadalajara, Jalisco. Tequila has positioned itself so much in the United States that it currently sells more -in terms of value- than American whiskey, said the president of the National Chamber of the Tequila Industry (CNIT), Luis Fernando Félix Fernández.

“It has positioned itself very well and very quickly as a quality, high-priced drink, and there is a great appetite for tequila in the United States,” said the national leader of the sector, interviewed in the framework of the celebration of the 41st anniversary of the Tequila Day.

The president of CNIT anticipated that by the end of this year, the industry will reach double-digit growth in both production and exports of the beverage, although, he clarified, exports will begin to slow down due to the growth of the base.

“Exports have dropped a bit because they no longer grow at the same rate because the base is also higher, but we continue to see interest and all this issue of celebrities who have had their tequila, that helps a lot to make the category fashionable” , stressed Felix Fernandez.

According to statistics from the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT), at the end of September, the production of the beverage grew 21.6%, going from 387.3 million liters produced from January to September 2021 to 471 million liters in the same period of the year. present year.

Meanwhile, in the first nine months of the year, tequila exports grew 27% compared to the same period of the previous year, going from 250.2 million liters to 317.8 million in 2022.

During the ceremony, the union gave the recognition as “Great Tequilero” to businessman Rodolfo González González for being a “reference in the sector”.
