The securities regulator China is studying policies that would give foreign investment funds a national treatment when determining short-term operations in A shares listed in the country, in search of attracting foreign investment, reported on Sunday the Shanghái Securities News.
Currently, funds that own 5% or more of a publicly listed company China they must forgo gains from short-term trading, defined as selling shares within six months of their purchase, or buying shares within six months of their sale, under Chinese securities law.
However, regulators determine the short term trading based on the shares of each product in the case of Chinese funds, but on the combined shares in the case of foreign funds.
The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) intends to also apply the product-based short-term trading rules for foreign fundsin order to facilitate foreign investment, according to the newspaper.
