pension for older adults will grow 25% in 2023

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced that in 2023 the pension for older adults will grow 25% in 2023 and another 25% in 2024.

“I take this opportunity to say that as of January the pension increases by 25%, and in January 24 another 25 percent.

“When I finish, when our mandate is over, all older adults, around 12 million older adults in the country, will be receiving twice what they received at the beginning of our government,” said the head of the federal Executive in his morning conference.

Currently, the pension for older adults is 3,850 pesos every two months, so if what was announced by the president materializes, more than 900 pesos would be added to that amount.

According to the Federation Expenditure Budget Project for 2023, it was projected to allocate 335,499 million pesos to the pension program for the elderly, a figure 34.2% above what was allocated this 2022, whose amount amounted to 249,915 pesos.

In total, the government contemplates 16 priority social programs for next year, which will have a total budget of 600,321 million pesos.

Within these programs, the one that will absorb the most budget will be the Welfare Pension for Older Adults, to which they intend to allocate 335,500 million pesos.

In the presentation of the budget project for the following, the Secretary of the Treasury, Rogelio Ramírez de la O, indicated that “the State has the responsibility to promote the well-being of the population and channel national economic development with social programs that support the standard of living of the majorities, and projects that guarantee the integration of the different regions of the country, and that have a present and future impact”.
