Production Program for Welfare registers 84% ​​progress: Sader

Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, Victor Villalobos Arambulareported that as of last June the Production for Welfare Program registered an advance of 84 per cent.

Of the 14,007 million pesos allocated in the 2022 budget for its operation, he specified when appearing before commissions of the Chamber of Senators for the analysis of the President’s Fourth Government Report Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorin the first semester 12,800 million pesos had already been delivered.

He also assured, citing the report of the United Nations Agency for Food and Agriculture (FAO), which reduced the undernourished population in the country.

“While in 2018 7.2% of Mexicans were in this situation, in 2021 it was 6.1%. Between 2018 and 2021, in absolute terms, 1.4 million Mexicans overcame their undernourishment condition,” said Villalobos Arámbula.

He explained before the members of the Committee on Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development of the Upper House that the direct productive support was destined for the most part to the production of basic grains:

• Corn
• Beans
• Wheat
• Rice
• Café
• Sugar cane
• Cacao
• Honey
• Amaranth
• Chia

And that benefits one million 807,367 producers.

In addition, we are providing the technical support that allows us to strengthen the productive capacity of farmers.”

She highlighted that 34% of the beneficiaries are women producers and that the government program includes 1,033 municipalities with an indigenous population.
