(CNN Spanish) — This is not the first time that Shakira sings for a broken heart, but we could say that the release of her new song “Monotonia” will shake the Camp Nou.
And as expected, the reactions on social networks have not been long in coming, considering that this long-awaited single comes five months after the media break between the Colombian singer and the Spanish soccer player Gerard Piqué.
“Monotonía”, a song that the Colombian recorded together with the Puerto Rican urban artist Ozuna, has already accumulated more than 70,000 views on YouTube in the first hours of its premiere.
“Thanks to Ozu and all of you for the support and love you have given me from the filming to the release of this song! I hope you like it. @ozuna”, wrote Shakira on her social networks.
For their part, the followers of the Colombian singer assure on social networks that the subject is a hint to the Spanish soccer player.
From comparisons between “Me enamoré”, the song he released in 2017 and in whose video the Spanish soccer player appears, and the recently released “Monotonía” in which he sings: “Suddenly you were no longer the same / You left me because of your narcissism / You forgot what one day we were.”

Others allude to the moment that the Colombian singer is living, who in an interview with ELLE magazine said that it was “the darkest stage of my life.”
“To be honest, Shakira has never been shy about metaphors in her lyrics and the video for ‘Monotonia’ is far from being a literary figure; it’s direct. Shakira is broken, she has a hole through her chest and she doesn’t want to hide it,” wrote the user @silapreto on Twitter accompanied by some screenshots of the video in which the Colombian is seen with tears in her eyes.

In addition, Shakira would be confirming what the interview with ELLE already said in which she assured that she sacrificed her career to support her ex-partner’s. In “Monotonia” he sings: “You, distant with your attitude / And that filled me with concern / You didn’t give even half / But I do know that I gave more than you / I was running for someone / Who wasn’t even walking for me”.

Since last October 6, when the premiere of the new single was announced, Shakira had been posting on her Instagram account (where more than 76 million people follow her) fragments of the video and the song accompanied by a heart pierced by a sword and a letter of spite and heartbreak.
“It wasn’t your fault / It wasn’t mine either / I knew this would happen,” the song reads.
Since then, the followers guessed that the song refers or at least can be related to the break with Piqué.
Since her first album “Pies descalzos”, Shakira has released several songs that became anthems of past love, heartbreak and “tusa”. In this category is the essential “Anthology”, which she composed when she was just 17 years old after falling in love with her at 15, according to the artist’s own account. There’s also hits from the album “donde está los ladrones”, such as “Moscas en la casa” and “Si te vas”.
The list also highlights “No”, his collaboration with the late Gustavo Cerati, and the recent “I congratulate you”, which many have also interpreted as an allusion to his relationship with the Spanish soccer player, whom he met in 2010 before the World Cup from South Africa, in which she performed the official song “Waka Waka”.
“To complete you I broke into pieces / They warned me but I didn’t listen / I realized that yours is false / It was the straw that broke the camel’s back,” says the song he did together with Rauw Alejandro, who was nominated for the This year’s Grammy.
