Pope Francis receives from the hands of Alejandro Murat, a work of sacred art, a gift from Oaxacan artisans

In a private audience with His Holiness Pope Francis, religious leader of the Catholics, Governor Alejandro Murat, along with his wife Ivette Morán de Murat, presented a majestic image of the Virgin of Juquila.

It is a collaborative work that demonstrates the talent of the Oaxacan creative hands, and that consists of a copal carving born in the Jacobo and María Ángeles Workshop, of San Martín Tilcajete, metalwork applications of the master Conrado Villegas Alcázar, of filigree of the master jeweler José Jorge García García, both from Oaxaca de Juárez, as well as textiles from Santo Tomás Jalieza, made by the teacher Elsa Abigail Mendoza Antonio.

It should be noted that the Virgin of Juquila is one of the most beloved religious symbols of Oaxacans. Its sanctuary is located in Santa Catarina Juquila, a community that received the title of Magical Town during the administration of Governor Alejandro Murat, and every year it receives hundreds of thousands of pilgrims, which results in a great economic benefit for the families of the municipality and the region.

In this meeting, Murat Hinojosa invited the Supreme Pontiff to visit Oaxaca, in addition to asking for a blessing for all Oaxacans.
