Crimes related to gender violence rise

Between 2020 and 2021, the judicial powers of the states registered an increase of up to almost 100% in crimes related to gender violence, revealed data from the 2022 National Census of the Impartation of State Justice of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) .

In the case of criminal cases in which people 18 years of age and older are involved, the crime of family violence grew 54.6%, going from 24,257 to 37,510, as detailed in the report.

While, in the same category, rape, the figure went from 5,739 to 6,285 between 2020 and 2021, that is, an increase of 9.5 percent.

For its part, in criminal cases in which minors were involved, the crime of rape went from 378 to 646, which was equivalent to an increase of 70.8%; sexual abuse grew 98%, going from 220 to 436 cases last year, according to Inegi data.

Meanwhile, in family violence, the number of crimes went from 230 to 260, which meant an increase of 13 percent.

Low prosecution of homicides

The report highlighted that, in criminal cases heard by state judges and in which adults were involved as alleged aggressors, homicide cases fell between 2020 and 2021, going from 18,852 to 10,171, that is, one down from 46 percent.

In turn, in terms of homicide cases in which minors were linked as the aggressors, the figure went from 245 to 264, equivalent to an increase of 7.7 percent.

The report from the Institute of Statistics detailed that there was an increase in the number of criminal cases related to crimes ranging from drug dealing, theft, to injuries.

In the case of drug sales in which people over the age of 18 were involved, the number of cases increased from 27,613 to 35,656, an increase of 29%; in this same crime, but in minors the data shows a reduction of 17.1%, going from 1,899 to 1,573.

In the various forms of theft, 45,690 criminal cases were registered in which citizens were involved, an increase of 4.8% when compared to the 43,587; For this same crime in the category of adolescents, the figures also registered an increase since in 2020 there were 998 while last year they added 1,344, an increase of 34.6 percent.

In the case of injuries, there was an increase in the category of adults and a decrease in the cases of minors; for the former it went from 13,553 cases in 2020 to 21,696, which meant an increase of 60 percent.

For criminal cases involving children under the age of 18, the figure went from 381 to 377, a decrease of 1 percent.

“In 2021, 265,929 crimes were registered in the criminal cases filed. Of these, adults committed 97.4% and adolescents, 2.6%.

“The national total of registered crimes increased 30.3% compared to 2020. For criminal matters, the increase corresponded to 30.7%; in justice for adolescents, the increase was 18.7 percent”, reported the Inegi census.

States with the most criminal cases

The Institute of Statistics reported that, by entity, “it stands out that Mexico City concentrated the largest number of crimes for adults (32,798). In the case of adolescents, the majority of the crimes were registered in Chihuahua (1,415)”.

In the case of adults, the entities that followed the capital were Nuevo León (25,660); Lower California (24,105); Chihuahua (18,252) and the State of Mexico (16,229).

While in minors, after Chihuahua was Guanajuato (899); New Leon (599); Baja California (444) and Mexico City (383).
