NINETY-year-old is believed to be the world’s oldest trucker

A pensioner aged 90 is thought to be the world’s oldest lorry driver.

Aged trucker Brian Wilson has been behind the wheel for nearly seven decades.

Brian, who is from Sheffield, says he does not want to retire and gets restless sitting about at home.

The father-of-four has no fears of his boss telling him to take it easy, because he owns the company himself.

He said: ‘I’ll keep going as long as I can.

‘I’m so used to doing it, it’s just a part of life.

‘Sometimes I’m up at 4am to set off on the road for 5am.

‘I get all restless lounging about in the house if I’m off work. I just want to get back to work after a few days.’

Brian started driving in 1950 when he was stationed in Germany and in charge of armoured trucks during his national service, the Metro reported.

He started delivering petrol for Esso in 1953 when he returned home.

Brian has been behind the wheel for nearly 70 years and has no plans to retire – despite turning 90 years of age

His father’s firm, E. Wilson & Sons needed a driver so he went there to work.

When his parent died in the 1970s he took over and has been the boss ever since.

Now he is a bit older he says he only does short trips – which Brian classes as being up to 150 miles.

Brian said: ‘I only do about 130 miles these days, I won’t go further than Birmingham or Newcastle.

‘But back in the day I would go all over, I’ve driven all over the country.’

He says he has never had an accident and puts his energy down to his lifestyle.

Brian said: ‘I’ve been well looked after. I try to get about eight hours sleep a night, I don’t drink so much any more.

‘I just keep going. Every year, I have to go for a medical to get my driver’s licence renewed and every year I pass it.’
