Inflation in the US remained stable at 6.2% during September

The inflation remained stable in September in the United States, at 6.2% at one year and 0.3% at one month, according to the PCE index, the inflation indicator preferred by the Federal Reserve and published this Friday by the Department of Commerce.

This is in line with analyst expectations.

Household incomes also increased by 0.4% in September, as in August and as expected, and their spending also remained stable, at +0.6%, an increase however somewhat stronger than expected.

These figures come two weeks after the publication of another indicator of inflation, the CPI index, a reference in particular for the indexation of pensions.

The data for September, published in mid-October, had shown a very timid slowdown in one year (8.2% compared to 8.3% in the previous month), and even a new acceleration in one month, to 0.4 percent.

The PCE inflation index is the one taken into account by the Fed, which intends to reduce this price increase to 2 percent.

Inflation greatly reduces the purchasing power of households and is the economic priority of political leaders.

It is the Fed that is taking action to curb this rise in prices, and this requires a slowdown in economic activity.

To do this, the central bank raises its reference rate, which raises the interest rates on loans for individuals and companies.

The Fed is expected to decide, at its next meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, on a further increase.
