With an investment of 260 million dollars, Ford Motor Company opens today in Mexico the third Global Center for Technology and Business (GTBCfor its acronym in English), the only one in the American continent that is located in the State of Mexico in the municipality of Naucalpan de Juárez.
In interview with The Economist, Ludivina Osorio Hernandezdirector of Ford Land in MexicoPuerto Rico, Central America and the Caribbean commented that the GTBC is a sign of trust in the country, “the company trusts that Mexican talent is capable of continuing to generate ideas, to continue innovating and to continue implementing those ideas that are they have created”.
The objective of the GBT is to promote business transformation, optimize the work of the different teams through the redesign, simplification and automation of processes with an “end-to-end” vision to improve the experience of customers and collaborators around the world. . The other two Global Technology Centers are located in India and Europe (which is divided between Hungary and Romania), and are spaces designed to standardize activities.
“The GBTC in Mexico will specialize in activities and processes of Product Development and Purchasing, Information Technology, Finance, Human Resources and After Sales. The medium-term vision is that the company has the same capacities in all the Centers to establish the “Follow the sun” strategy; in which a process can have uninterrupted follow-up in any of the Centers regardless of the time of day or location and with this, the transformation of the business is sought”, mentioned Ludivina Osorio, who has a professional career of more than two decades in Ford.
He mentioned that among the most important objectives is to be a campus where people have global relevance, “that we continue to have opportunities for new jobs and new activities and to be able to contribute towards the Ford PLUS strategy, the company’s global strategy, towards electrification , towards the technology of different products, both in vehicles and in other products that we will be selling as part of mobility”.
Ford de México began operations in 1925 and has Stamping and Assembly plants in Hermosillo and Cuautitlán; three engine plants located in Chihuahua and a transmission plant in Irapuato, in addition to its central offices established in Mexico City.
The company produces the following automobiles in Mexico: Mach-E, the first electric vehicle produced in the country (CSAP) and Bronco Sport (HSAP). Its manufacturing strategy also incorporates the assembly and production of Duratec I-4 engines (2 and 2.5L) as well as 6.7L V8 Power Stroke Diesel engines and a 4.4L diesel engine.
Resilience and evolution
“The great relevance that it has for Ford in Mexico is that despite the pandemic and all the situations that have been experienced in the automotive sector and in the economy, during these last two years, the company continued to trust Mexico and that we can do things well and with quality”, this is how Ludivina Osorio considered it.
He said that the GBTC demonstrates not only that we are a manufacturing hub, but also that “we are a hub in which the technology of the future can be created and designed, we currently have approximately 3,000 engineers already on site, who develop parts for various vehicles. like the Bronco which is a clear example. For many years now, at Ford Mexico we have been developing engineering technologies, most of the people who will be placed in the Center are engineers, an area that has been growing rapidly over the last 15 years”.
Osorio has been in the position for two years as director of operations at Ford Land, an intense period in the GBTC project and one that is already a reality, where the new facilities have the capacity to house up to 9,000 employees in a hybrid work scheme and in addition to that open the opportunity to expand the operations of the brand in the country, if necessary.
“The campus was designed with a holistic concept, thinking of the person, in enhancing their talents, in finding their own abilities and in being able to work together collaborating and creating within the spaces”, he said.
The campus is made up of corporate offices, one of the largest engineering centers in Latin America and first class amenities such as: gym, cafeterias, state-of-the-art medical service, mini mart, beauty salon, barber shop, dry cleaners, soccer field, volleyball and basketball and green areas to take walks and meditate and thus strengthen the vision of balance of life and work.
sustainability
Ludivina Osorio, who has been with the company for 24 years, said that the GTBC is a sustainable building and that it has a plan that protects each resource in the area, such as:
- Zero waste: All waste will be recycled, composted, among other actions, which means that the waste generated on the Ford campus will not end up in municipal landfills. This same principle was used during its construction process, so all waste has been recycled.
- Zero discharge: this means that all residual water will be treated and reused in restrooms and irrigation of green areas, avoiding discharges in the municipal drainage.
- Rainwater drainage system: In order to protect the environment and take care of the nearby community and its resources, the building has a rainwater control system, which aims to regulate the amount that runs off into the ravines to prevent their erosion and maintain their natural flow towards the local dam.
- Lighting with programmed systems: All lighting throughout the campus is LED and automated, which will represent significant energy efficiency compared to conventional lighting systems.
In addition, the campus integrates 4.2 hectares of protected natural green area in charge of Ford de México, which is being reforested by the company with the support of employees, as part of an internal campaign that aims to maintain and increase this lung for the locality.
“We built a gabion wall that allows the flow of air and water to the subsoil, contributing to the non-erosion of the ravines that are under the protection of the company. The wall will filter the water, the rocks help the water slow down so as not to erode the ravines. Apparently it is the largest gabion wall in Latin America, however, we are correcting the information”, said Osorio.
“At Ford Mexico we are proud that Mexican talent is highly valued, we want to contribute to global modernization and demonstrate that the company’s commitment to innovation is not only anchored to vehicles, but also to the environment, people and their future”, concluded Ludivina Osorio.
