CNH endorses the investment of Pemex in the Lakach gas field

Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) received approval for its new development plan in the Lakach field, where its subsidiary Exploration and Production (PEP) contemplated an investment of 1,789.61 million dollars to carry out activities related to extraction in this gas field , on assignment A-0188-M-Lakach Field, in deep water within the Perdido Fold Belt in the Gulf of Mexico.

It should be remembered that despite the presidential commitment of this administration not to invest in unprofitable activities such as the exploitation of hydrocarbons in deep waters, on the one hand, and the extraction of natural gas until 2019, Octavio Romero Oropeza, general director of Petróleos Mexicanos reconsidered on July 1 and, together with the federal government, admitted that the new pricing environment even forces them to enter into a public-private partnership with New York’s New Fortress Energy, for an investment that was initially jointly calculated at a minimum of 1,500 million. dollars in the Lakach field, whose natural gas production will begin in a year, according to the manager.

Lakach is a deposit with resources of up to 900,000 million cubic feet of natural gas, which is 1,000 meters deep in the Gulf of Mexico, explained Romero Oropeza at the opening of the civil works facilities of the Olmeca refinery in Dos Bocas, Tabasco. There, 1,400 million dollars have been invested that Pemex could not throw away, so the good news is that the company returns to deep waters and in July 2023 it will have the first gas production from this field.

According to the CNH, 82% of the investment will be for development activities, 10% will be for the abandonment and dismantling of the facilities, and the remaining 8% for the intervention of wells, facility operations.
