(Trends Wide) — A mother who worked at an emergency call center in New Orleans was shocked when she answered a 911 call about an armed robbery at a McDonald’s and realized it was her 16-year-old daughter begging for her help.
Teri Clark, assistant manager of communications operations for the Orleans District, was helping staff answer 911 calls on Oct. 17 when she heard a familiar voice.
“I was in shock,” Clark told Trends Wide affiliate WDSU of the moment she heard her daughter, Tenia Hill, who worked as a restaurant employee on the other end of the line.
“She said ‘McDonald’s,’ so I asked, what’s your location at a McDonald’s? It’s me, Tapeworm … in Claiborne … Mom, help! “Clark recounted the story with his daughter.
Tenia told her mother that an armed woman had entered the McDonald’s and locked her and other staff members in the freezer, according to WDSU, which obtained a recording of the call and surveillance video from the restaurant.
“Mom, please hurry up, he has a gun,” Tenia said in the 911 call.
“Let’s hurry up. Give me a description,” her mother replied.
“What broke me down was when my daughter said, ‘We’re in the freezer.’ And I said, ‘The freezer?’… Tears were streaming down my face, but I was still trying to do my job,” the mother said. to WDSU.
Despite everything, Clark was able to keep his daughter calm and send the police to the restaurant.
“I didn’t want my mom to have to bury her youngest daughter. She could have lost her life, but she saved me. She was very happy,” Tenia told WDSU.
Tyrell Morris, executive director of the communications district, praised Clark’s behavior during such a stressful situation.
“Teri Clark is a shining example of what our 911 heroes in New Orleans and across the country do every day. They answer each and every call with passion, purpose and professionalism, even when it comes to our own family,” Morris said in a statement to Trends Wide.
