PAN demands that Adán Augusto López stop pressuring local Congresses with the military reform

The national leader of the National Action Party (PAN), Marko Cortés Mendoza, asked the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, to stop pressuring local governments and Congresses for the approval of the military reform, and to concentrate on addressing the nearly 2,500 homicides that were recorded in October, the most violent month of the year.

He argued that, for the security issue, the federal government does not need the transfer of the National Guard to the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena), since in those, that corporation has already been militarized since March 2019.

“That is why we demand that the Secretary of the Interior better get to work so that the country has security results,” he stated.

Accompanied by the general secretary of the PAN, Cecilia Patron Laviada, and the national coordinator of PAN deputies, Enrique Vargas del Villar, Marko Cortés said that neither with the policy of hugging criminals nor with more soldiers in the streets have they managed to contain violence, because this government has repeated for four years its failed strategy of letting criminal organizations grow and militarizing public security that should be civilian.

“That is why we demand that the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, stop his obsession with pressuring the local congresses to approve the constitutional reform, they already have more than the 17 local congresses necessary to be able to publish their mistaken reform; Therefore, we demand that you stop blackmailing state governments by offering support in exchange for local legislators approving the mistaken reform that militarizes security,” he said.

He considered that what the Secretary of the Interior has done polarizes the country even more with the aim of distracting society from the great national problems such as security.

He argued that with data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, in the 45 months that the current administration of López Obrador has been running, 108,794 intentional homicides have been registered, above the 66,000 that had been registered in that same period of the previous administration. federal.

“The position of Acción Nacional has been very clear: the National Guard must be of a civilian nature, as ordered by the Constitution, and the municipal and state police must be strengthened, equipped, and trained, establishing adequate coordination with the federal government to fight more effectively the crimes that affect Mexican families so much,” he said.
