Jill Scott doesn’t want to be remembered for swearing during the Women’s Euros final last summer – and insists I’m A Celeb viewers ‘won’t hear any X-rated language’ from her in the jungle.
The former midfielder, 35, lit up social media when she mouthed off at a player during the Euro 2022 match, which saw the England squad triumph against Germany.
But the Lioness star says that she ‘hates swearing’ and her outburst during the game at Wembley last July, where she yelled ‘F*** off, you f***ing p****’ at her rival, was out of character and after 170 international appearances, she hopes fans can forgive her.
EXCLUSIVE ‘It’s not my proudest moment’: Lionness Jill Scott doesn’t want to be remembered for swearing at Women’s Euros final and insists ‘you won’t be hearing X-rated language in the jungle’ ahead of I’m A Celeb debut
She told MailOnline: ‘As soon as that moment happened, I wasn’t proud of it. I’ve played football for so long. I don’t want to be remembered for swearing because the irony in this is I hate swearing.
‘Whenever I hear it, if I’m in a park or something like that, I will pull people up for swearing. So, it is not my proudest moment.
‘But I think what shined through in that moment hopefully is just that I’m very passionate when I know that I’m helping others and I kind of don’t want to let the team down.

‘I hope I can be forgiven. It was at Wembley, 90,000 people, and a final and a once in a lifetime moment. I’ve apologised for it, and I doubt you’ll be seeing that in the jungle.’
It was her trophy-winning performance at the Euros that sparked interest in Jill from ITV bosses and after she retired from her footballing career a month later, she couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take on a new challenge.
She said: ‘I was approached after the Euros. As soon as I received the email, I was like, obviously I’m a big fan of the show and I felt like you can’t say no to something like this.
‘So straightaway, I expressed an interest and then obviously there was a bit of a process after that. But yeah, I’m so happy and I’m sitting here actually pinching myself.
She told MailOnline: ‘As soon as that moment happened, I wasn’t proud of it. I’ve played football for so long. I don’t want to be remembered for swearing because the irony in this is I hate swearing’
‘This has been the first time that I’ve actually paused and been able to reflect a little bit, especially on my career and obviously the best summer of my life.
‘I played football for a very long time, I think 30 years of my life but surprisingly I’m not missing it yet as much as I thought I would.’
Jill, who’s now keen to pursue her passion for coaching, admits she feels under pressure to still represent her team during her stint in the I’m A Celeb jungle.
The women’s squad winning the Euros and their passion for the sport inspired a new campaign tackling gender bias in football – as the players called for equal pay to their male Premier League counterparts.
Coming back: Jill is currently Down Under, as the new series, hosted by Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly (pictured), gears up to return
Line-up She will join the likes of Boy George, Olivia Attwood and Matt Hancock in the jungle
And the former Everton and Manchester City midfielder feels that she still exemplifies those beliefs and hopes she can continue to make her former teammates proud.
She said: ‘That’s probably a little bit of pressure to be honest. I hope that we made everybody proud in the summer. However, I hope what I do in the jungle won’t affect us.
‘I just want to go in there and have fun. It’s definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity.
‘But yeah, a small part of me does feel like I’m representing the women’s football world and hopefully I can do them proud.’
The only downside signing up to I’m A Celeb and potentially being in the Australian jungle for the next four weeks is that Jill will miss out on the World Cup – and she’s gutted about it.
The tournament begins later this month in Qatar and contestants have no access to the outside world, meaning Jill will have to wait until the moment she’s voted off – or wins – to find out those all-important scores.
She said: ‘I’m definitely missing seeing the football results. I did have a bit of a moment because obviously I’m missing the World Cup and stuff like that.
‘I’m used to being away from home because of sport, but you can usually keep in touch via phone calls.
‘Not having a phone has definitely allowed more time for me to think. I’m definitely missing home a lot more than I normally would.’
