Russia hinders action against climate change, says Zelensky at COP27

The planet “cannot afford a single shot,” the Ukrainian president declared on Tuesday. Volodymyr Zelensky in a videotaped speech that was broadcast at the COP27 leaders’ summit.

With its aggression, Russia has prevented the world from carrying out “collective actions” against the climate changehe added.

“For some, climate change is just rhetoric, marketing, but not real action. They are the ones that prevent the implementation of climate goals,” said the President of Ukraine.

They are the ones who, in their office, laugh at those who fight to save life on the planet, while in public they support action for nature,” he explained.

“They are the ones who launch wars of aggression while the planet cannot afford a single shot, because it needs collective action,” insisted the Ukrainian head of state in his message, delivered in English.

“There can be no effective climate policy without peace on Earth, because nations only think about protecting themselves from the threats that Russian aggression has caused in particular,” he added, referring to the food crisis and energetic.

Zelensky denounced the destruction of Ukrainian forests since the Russian invasion in late February, calling on the world to support the creation of a “global platform to assess the impact of military actions on climate and the environment.”
