American retail giant Walmart agreed to pay $3.1 billion to settle allegations it contributed to the national opioid crisis by failing to regulate prescriptions at its stores, the New York State Attorney’s Office and the company.
The funds will go to communities across the country and the agreement “will require significant improvements in the way that walmart pharmacies handle opioids,” New York Attorney General Letitia James added in a statement.
