SAT authorized 14% fewer resources for automatic returns to individuals compared to 2021: Coparmex

Monterrey, NL. Until last September, the federal treasury authorized 14% less resources in the case of automatic returns to individuals, compared to what was returned in the same period of 2021, which seems to indicate that the Tax Administration Service (SAT) hardened its criteria and rejected requests for tax refunds from taxpayers, indicated Cecilia Carrillo Lopezdirector of Coparmex Nuevo León.

An analysis carried out by the Employers’ Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) of Nuevo León, with data from the SAT, reveals that the federal tax authority authorized 30.577 million pesos in automatic refunds, from January to September of this year, when in the same period of 2021 the amount was 35,505 million pesos.

The Automatic Refund System is a facility applicable to individuals who submitted their 2021 Annual Return and who determine a balance in favor of Income Tax (ISR).

This year, the federal tax office broke the trend that had been recorded in the three previous years, by reducing the authorized amount. From January to September 2019, it authorized 22,127.4 million pesos, in 2020 it increased to 28,675 million and in 2021 it had an increase of 23.81% compared to the previous year.

“It seems very unfair to us, since a clear explanation is not issued to each taxpayer who submits his return, nor are appointments available to obtain feedback or make clarifications.”

They make use of the resources that individuals need to invest in their productive activities. And this year, with even more reason, since we are still in the stage of economic recovery”, added the directive.

He considered that they are resources that do not belong to the federal fiscal authority, and that therefore, “the public treasury has no right to delay.”

There is no doubt, he said, that the decrease in the resources returned to taxpayers through the automatic return system is not due to a drop in the number of requests, but rather because the authority seeks to withhold the resources and, where appropriate, deny said return.
