Deputies must promote the approval of the reform on “decent vacations: Tereso Medina

The decree approved in the Senate of the Republic to extend the vacation period of workers from the first working year, from six to twelve days, must be defended in the Chamber of Deputies, since it is a benefit for the worker who privileges the well-being and goes hand in hand with productivity.

This was stated by the secretary of the Labor Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Tereso Medina. who commented that “I am convinced that our job is to propose and focus our efforts on initiatives that improve the quality of life of workers.”

In this sense, he stressed that the approval is extremely important for all Mexicans of working age, or on their way to it. “One of the most relevant issues is that of productivity, since working a large number of hours does not guarantee that you will have the best results by generating wear and tear on collaborators.”

It should be noted that the decree approved, in the first instance in the Senate of the Republic, modifies articles 76 and 78 of the Federal Labor Law focused on the vacation theme, which have not undergone any modification since 1970; In this sense, “the changes meet a historical union demand focused on the well-being of the workers that takes on transcendental relevance,” he said.

The International Labor Organization (OIT) establishes as a suggestion, a minimum of 18 days of annual vacation. In Latin America there are several examples of countries that have more flexible labor laws, for example, Colombia, Chile and Guatemala, grant 15 days of vacation, in Uruguay they increase to 20 and in Panama, workers have 30 days off on a regular basis. annual.

In Mexico, the hours worked give an average of 2,255 per year, per worker, according to figures from the OECD and Coparmex. These figures show wear and tear in the daily lives of people of working age, who live to work, but which does not pay off in productivity and competition, resulting in a topic worth analyzing.

For this reason, Medina highlighted, “the national model of Responsible Unionism is focused on safeguarding and ensuring better conditions for human, social and personal development through programs, institutions and benefits, which allow the workforce not only to be trained but also to access growth opportunities.

Hence, he said, “this achievement must be defended in the Chamber of Deputies and it is of great importance that we join efforts with all political positions so that the discussion on this initiative is directed towards approval and that current working conditions are improved” .
