In alliance, they launch the 2022 edition of “Around Ibero-America 2022” for the preservation of the environment

The scarcity of water in the country is a worrying issue that requires more and more dedication, since it is estimated that 15.1% of the Mexican population lives in regions that face problems of water scarcity, while according to the atlas of water risks prepared by the World Resources Institute (WRI), Mexico occupies the 24th position worldwide, in a level of water stress, where 15 of the 32 federal entities are at an extremely high level (that is, more than 80% is extracted of the water that is available).

Given the above context and endorsing its commitment to the environment, the company Veolia, the Pritt brand, Henkel and Promesa, together with the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), launch the 2022 edition of Around Ibero-America in favor of Transformation Ecological, which aims to instill and empower minors to develop attitudes and skills that allow them to improve their quality of life.

“Training future generations to preserve the environment is a fundamental part of Veolia’s responsibility. By encouraging boys and girls to be aware of this issue, not only does it allow children to explore and challenge their creativity, but they also become multipliers of ecological transformation in their different social circles”, commented Leslie Lamadrid, Director of Communication Corporate and Social Responsibility of Veolia Mexico.

The initiative, aimed at students from public schools in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Brazil, Colombia, Panama and Peru, addresses the theme: “The urgency of caring for water: Small actions, big changes.” In the country, 26 schools and more than 1,400 5th and 6th grade students from Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Saltillo, Querétaro and Aguascalientes were invited so that, together with teachers and parents, they can create a campaign based on videos to communicate and raise awareness of the urgency of caring for water.

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the OEI, Mariano Jabonero, stressed that education continues to be a fundamental pillar in the Ibero-American region to act against certain problems that require the attention, interest, participation and learning of students, For this reason, they will continue to seek to develop the capacities of students and the responsibility of teachers to encourage them to be part of the change and to be able to identify problems, responding with the best environmental solutions.

As part of the program, schools will have educational material prepared by the OEI that will be available to teachers and students in digital and printed format, which allows students to learn in a didactic and innovative way about these environmental issues. .

Around Latin America will culminate in a contest, where students will have to translate everything they have learned into a communication campaign, to raise awareness in their community about water protection and promote innovative solutions to drought or other environmental risks. The best projects in the country will be rewarded, also highlighting the most participative schools.

Since 2012, Around Iberoamerica has summoned more than 180,000 students from Latin America, who have participated in environmental education campaigns focused on water care, sustainable development, protection of biodiversity, circular economy, renewable energy, recycling, among others.
