Succession’s Brian Cox and Professor Brian Cox FINALLY come face to face

Succession’s Brian Cox and his namesake, Professor Brian Cox came face to face for the first time on Friday morning which caused some confusion.  

The Scottish actor, 76, and the physicist, 54, appeared on BBC Breakfast where they revealed that their identical names can lead to some awkward moments. 

The pair couldn’t stop laughing as they told host Charlie Stayt about a mix-up at a hotel the night before.

Actor Brian, best known for playing billionaire media mogul Logan Roy in Sky’s hit drama Succession for four years, said: ‘Last night was very confusing when he arrived to the hotel and said there was two Brian Cox’s so they said you’ve got two rooms.

‘He said, no I think there’s two Brian Cox’s and the hotel said we can’t have two Brian Coxes’

Professor Brian, who had a successful pop career in the 90’s by playing keyboard for rock band Dare, then revealed: ‘They wouldn’t check me in! I had to change my name.

‘I had to get a picture out on my phone and say, “this Brian Cox, he’ll be coming later” and he said, “I know neither of you – I don’t watch television.”‘

The physicist, who has starred in BBC programs such as Stargazing Live and Wonders of Life, then joked about having to possibly bunk with the Hollywood star: ‘It might have happened because he was going to cancel – I had that in my mind!’

He added: ‘Sometimes I’ll get in a car and the driver will say, “Ah I love Succession, I don’t like this astronomy stuff”,’ while the other Brian confirmed it happens to him too. 

Professor Brian shared a fun snap to social media of the pair in the hotel lobby after the incident.

He tweeted: ‘I’m on BBC Breakfast in the next hour talking about Black Holes – with the ‘other’ Brian Cox. One day I will tell the full story about me trying to check into the hotel last night. Confusion doesn’t begin to describe it.’

Broadcaster Scott Bryan penned: ‘BBC Breakfast booked both Brian Cox’s into the same hotel. causing utter confusion. Absolutely amazing.’

Fans then shared their opinion on the incredible moment they finally met, with one writing: ‘Will the real Brian Cox please stand up!’

Another said: Can you two please do a live tour?  My favourite actor and top cosmologist together on the one stage. Unbeatable.’
