Mazda presents its electrification plan towards 2030

Mazda presented its electrification plan towards 2030 worldwide, for which it will allocate 1.5 trillion yen (about 10.6 billion dollars), whose commitment will allow it to increase its sales between 25 and 40% of electrical units.

Akira Marumoto, President and CEO of Mazda Corporationexplained “we have established a three-phase approach until 2030 and we will approach electrification in a flexible way.”

In the first phase, the executive explained, Mazda will make use of technological assets that include multiple electrification technologies to achieve a reduction in our environmental footprint and produce attractive products. This means that it will continue to market combustion cars with technology that reduce polluting emissions, and will have a period from 2022 to 2024.

Later, a new hybrid system will be introduced, and electric vehicles will be launched in China, where electrification is advancing, and then globally, in the period from 2025 to 2027, Marumoto said.

For the third phase, Mazda will fully launch battery electric vehicles, including, “we will consider investing in battery production. We estimate that Mazda’s EV ratio in global sales will increase to a range between 25 and 40% from 2030,” said the president and CEO of Mazda Corporation.

The provisional goal of Mazda is to make factories worldwide, including the one in Mexico, carbon neutral worldwide by 2035, to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. “We will work on this initiative in three pillars: energy conservation, switching to renewable energies renewables and use of carbon neutral fuels”, he stated.

During an official message, Akira Marumoto announced the update of his medium-term plan and policies towards 2030, considering changes in the business environment, including countries’ environmental regulatory trends, geopolitical risks, and the rapid development of advanced technologies represented by CASE (Connected, Autonomous, Shared and Electric).

“We will carry out an in-depth investigation of the people and society of each country to be able to work on their relationship with automobiles and contribute to a safe and secure automotive society,” he added.
