Foreign trade of manufacturing in Nuevo León remains in a contraction phase: Caintra

Although the manufacturing industry is beginning to recover in most of its indicators, exports and imports are below the threshold of 50, in contrast, the producer inflation index is the highest, indicates the analysis of Economic Expectations that do the Chamber of the Transformation Industry of Nuevo León (Caintra).

The used capacity indicator went from 51.79 points in the previous month to 49.37 points in October, thus placing it in the contraction zone, after having maintained expansion for five consecutive months.

Unlike previous indicators, inventories reached the expansion zone, with 50.2 points; new orders went from 49.8 points in September to 50.5 in October.

In turn, employment continued to grow since January 2021, reaching 51.4 points in the month of October.

In relation to producer inflation, the indices continue to fall, however they are the highest; For example, the commodity price index reached 53.7 points in October, after hovering around 58 points five months ago, just as the raw material price index has fallen for the first time in nearly two years below the 60 points.

Factors affecting the sector

The main obstacle to the performance of the industry of Nuevo Leon is the persistent increase in the price of raw materials, affecting 42% of the companies surveyed.

Secondly, there is the shortage of trained personnel, which affected 38% of the industrial sector.

Another obstacle for 35% of the companies is a weak economic activity and the political landscape in 34 percent.

It should be noted that one in four companies surveyed was affected by the price of energy during the month of October, “such a high figure had not been reached in this area since February 2021.”

Finally, 30% of businessmen made some investment in machinery, equipment or construction in the month of October, six percentage points less than in September.
