An Arab emirate and a Romanian author will be honored at FIL Guadalajara

In the middle of the World Cup in Qatar, the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) in Mexico, the largest in the Hispanic world, honors another emirate of the Persian Gulf, as well as a Romanian writer, Mircea Cartarescu.

After Peru last year, Sharjahthe third largest city in the United Arab Emirates behind Abu Dhabi and Dubai, is on the FIL screen from this Saturday until Sunday, December 4.

“We are investing in a transfer of our literature to Spanish literature. It is more important than money,” said Ahmed Al Ameri, director of the Sharjah Book Authority.

Among Sharjah’s literary ambassadors, FIL presents Al Ameemi, “critic, poet, researcher and storyteller”, some of whose poems have been translated into English.

A large market for the sale of rights, the FIL will present its prize on Saturday to the Romanian Mircea Cartarescu, “a multifaceted writer, who fits into world literature, attracting his readers from all over the world from dreamlike and existential aspects”, as he considered.

Tributes will also be paid to the literatures of Norway, Italia, Israel, Quebec, Catalonia y Galicia. France will be represented among others by Mohamed Mbougar Sarr, 2021 Goncourt Prize for “The most secret memory of men”.
