Isla Mujeres.- The state governor, Mara Lezama Espinosa, closed the 2022 sargassum arrival season and thanked all Quintanarroans for their participation, women, men, students, businessmen, investors, visitors, in efforts to combat the arrival of this seaweed.
When participating in the forum Good practices and lessons learned in relation to the attention and management of sargassum that was held in the auditorium of the Ninth Naval Region, he affirmed that this algae is a threat that must be fought strategically and without truce.
“It is a natural phenomenon, but it can be addressed together, as a government of the people should work for the people, based on the New Agreement for Well-being and Development, which contemplates the participation of all in solving our problems,” said.
He considered it opportune to start preparing for next year, in order to mitigate the adverse effects caused by sargassum, protect our main activity and achieve together, in this first progressive and humanist government, generate the shared prosperity that is so much needed.
He highlighted that only this year 50,000 tons of sargassum were collected and around 200,000 tons in the last four years on 40 public beaches.
The governor of Quintana Roo thanked the support of the Secretary of the Navy, non-governmental organizations, municipal presidents, the private sector, among many, who participated with great success.
“If we do not learn from what we have experienced, if we do not take notes, if we do not embrace what is useful and discard what is useless, then we could not advance in scourges as important as this one, which is sargassum,” he pointed out.
During the Forum, experts from hotels such as Vidanta, Paladium, Mayacobá, Zoetry, Xcaret and Moon Palace exchanged experiences on the processes they developed during this season. Researchers from Semarnat, SEMA, Inapesca and Conanp did the same.
