Argentinea registered its first death from mpox, as monkey smallpox is called as of this Monday, when a patient died in a hospital in the city of Buenos Airesreported the Ministry of Health.
The person who died is a 44-year-old man, who had a diagnosis of VIH-Sida without treatment and suffered a picture of septic shock which caused his death, indicated the Epidemiological Bulletin published on Monday by the health portfolio.
The patient had been hospitalized since September 17 in intensive care with respiratory assistance and his death was reported on November 22, the report added.
Argentina reported 895 confirmed cases of mpox. In the last four weeks, the average number of confirmed cases was 49. 66.4% of the cases are registered among residents of the Argentine capital, which together with the provinces of Buenos Aires and Córdoba concentrate almost 95% of the all the patients, indicated the bulletin.
